Protein shakes
There are so many protein supplements available today it is hard to know which is
best. Some brands add creatine to their protein shakes whilst others add glutamine.
We need protein for our muscles to grow and repair themselves. Protein is also a
source of energy. The amount of protein athletes need has been a topic of huge debate
for many years because people who are very active, especially those who train frequently,
generally require more protein than those who don't.
Some studies have shown that certain products may do what the advertising claims.
However some products may only leave you lighter in the wallet instead of giving
you the benefits that the advertising promises.
Should you use them and why?
- 1. Convenience
Protein supplements such as
Maximuscle Promax are easy to mix, usually with water and thats it! It's
not always convenient to cook up some chicken breasts!
- 2. Promote lean muscle growth
You'll certainly not get muscle from drinking protein shakes alone, but by supporting
your training with protein supplements can aid muscle repair which can lead to increase
size and strength
- 3. Glutamine and BCAA's
Whey protein found in products such as Maximuscle Cyclone contains high amounts of glutamine
and BCAAs. Glutamine is the primary source for the body’s immune system, and plays
essential roles in dozens of bodily functions. BCAAs (branched chain amino acids)
are the building blocks of muscle than can increase lean muscle mass, stamina, and
recovery from exercise.
- 4. Save money
A standard tub of protein from a brand such as Maximuscle is around the £30.00 mark and will provide
enough protein for around 10-20 servings. Compare this to the cost of buying and
preparing chicken, salmon or turkey and you're looking at a considerable saving.
Of course on the other side of the argument you won't be getting all the added vitamins
etc that you would from food stuffs.
