Energy Gels

Energy gels provide you with a great source of carbohydrate energy. Cyclists, triathetes and runners all use gels to give themselves an energy boost right when they need it.

Energy drinks can provide a great source of energy and fluid replacement but aren't always that convenient, especially on long runs so Gels have come along to fill the convenience gap.

Energy gels are essentially concentrated drinks of about 100 calories each, and nearly all need to be taken with water so that they digest properly.

Saying that, products such as SIS GO-GEL is the only isotonic gel on the market and so the amount of water needed is greatly reduced.

Side note: The amount of gels you need is based on your size and the lenght of time you're exercising. As a general rule, an average person would benefit from between 30-60g per hour in a long run of two hours or more.

Should you use them and why?

  • 1. Convenience
Getting a fast supply of carbohydrate whilst on the go is tough. Taking a SIS GO-GEL with you on long run or ride is a lot more convenient that carry the equivalent number of bananas to give you the energy boost you need.
  • 2. Price
With High5's Energy Gel at less than £1 per pouch it's a low cost form of energy.
